Connect, Grow, and Serve.

Connect, Grow and Serve is the Mission Statement of Ortega Church. When we serve others, we serve the Lord. We believe that our being in mission together is a great way to deepen our faith, connect as a faith community, and connect to the community we seek to serve. Family Promise

Family Promise of Jacksonville is a non-profit, interfaith hospitality network providing temporary shelter, meals, hospitality and case management for families experiencing homelessness.   Family Promise works with homeless families to tailor individualized plans and help them take the necessary steps toward lasting independence.

Ortega Church is one of 17 hosting congregations in the Jacksonville network who provides meals for one week on a rotating basis. How you can get involved:

  • Prepare and serve meals

The Next Family Promise Volunteer Opportunity will be June 1 – 7, 2025.We need evening meals for the families in the shelter. Usually this means providing dinner for 8-12 individuals depending on the week. Meals can be delivered to Family Promise before 4:30pm each day. Families can reheat meals if delivered before 4:30. Meals may be homemade or purchased. All paper products and drinks have been supplied by our church for the week.

Once you sign up to host a night you will get an email one week prior to give exact numbers of adults and children and any food allergies.

Please share what you plan to prepare so we that we can provide variety.

The meals are dropped at the Family Promise site 432 University Blvd. N. If drop off is a problem we can pick up the meal and deliver for you.
